Course Reflection

The Educational Technology Program offered through the Public School System of the Northern Mariana Islands is a wonderful program for teachers. Throughout the course you learn different applications to use in the educational realm, collaborate with professionals who have been using them in their role as well as collaborate with professionals who are just beginning their journey into incorporating more educational technology into their own classrooms and work environments. Throughout the program you will be challenged to learn and expand your knowledge. Some of the challenges I faced were time, as some of the courses do require a substantial amount of time to complete the work, feelings of isolation as we were the first cohort to do this completely through online means, and also the learning curve for some of the applications. It sometimes would take me more time than others to learn a new application or tool that was being introduced to us. For me the most important thing that I...

Google Apps for Education Review

To be honest, this course was very easy for me. I was very familiar with the Google Suite so a lot of the course was review for me. I already use Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Drive, Contacts, and Shared Drives routinely in my classroom and within my school. I can now work on teaching my students some of the more advanced features of these programs as I am very comfortable with them. The things that were new to me in this course were Google Tasks, Keep, Sites and Blogger. I knew of them but am not as familiar with them. I can see teaching students to use Keep and Tasks to make checklists for what they need to turn in. I did create a basic website for my class but will need more practice to get it to where I want it. I am learning the Google Sites and will continue to hone my skills on that program. Blogger I used in my Instructional Technology course and never really used it. I think right now I will focus on a website but maybe in the future I can add a link to...

About me

Image
I love science and figuring out how things work. I have been with the CNMI Public School System for 15+ years. I have always taught at Saipan Southern High School. Of those 15 years, 10+ of them were as a teacher teaching Chemistry, Physics, and a freshmen level introductory science course and 6 of them as a counselor. While in college I did research on coral reefs looking at increased carbon dioxide levels and how the growth rates of coral are affected by it. This was done at the Biosphere 2 Center in Oracle, Arizona. Click Here to Check Out Biosphere 2 I have two bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Political Science with a minor in Chemistry from the University of North Texas. I also have a Master’s Degree in International Teaching from Framingham State University. With my background, I will help you rediscover the amazing world of science and how it happens in the real world.

What is Blogging? It is an online platform allowing you to share information, ideas, and or other things with people. Why should educators blog? Educators should blog to be able to share information, ideas, lessons, effective teaching strategies, and many other things to help other people out. You can also incorporate a blog into your classroom that will share information about your class with students, parents and administrators. It can give insight into what goes on in your classroom as well as share upcoming events with the same stakeholders. How can an elementary teacher use a blog? This can be the medium that an elementary teacher could provide basic information about their classroom and any supplies or materials that students need to bring to class. This can be a way for parents to make sure that the letters teachers send home with students actually make it home by sharing those letters on your blog. How can a middle school teacher use a blog?
